Alabama Arrests Down But Prison Crowding Remains

A group studying overcrowding in Alabama’s prisons has found that arrests are declining and sentences are getting shorter. But Alabama’s prisons remain at nearly double their designed capacity. UA Student Arrested On Terroristic Threat Charge

University of Alabama officials say a 19-year-old student accused of making a terroristic threat has been arrested. University spokesman Chris Bryant said in a statement Tuesday that Daniel Evan Simmons was arrested by university police after an investigation into alarming messages that were sent the morning of Sept. 23.
