Police: Man killed in brawl outside Philly cheesesteak spot

Police say a man is dead after he was beaten with a trash can lid and pummeled during a brawl outside a famous cheesesteak restaurant in Philadelphia. The violence broke out early Thursday outside Pat’s King of Steaks and may involve spectators who earlier attended a soccer game. Police say the 28-year-old New York man was fatally beaten and two other people including his father were injured in the fight before the suspects fled in an SUV. Police say alcohol may have played a role in the brawl. Police were called to the restaurant in July after a New Jersey man was shot and killed during an argument. A suspect was arrested and charged.

Polis, 1st openly gay governor elected, marries in Colorado

Colorado’s Jared Polis, who became the first openly gay man to be elected governor in the United States in 2018, has married his longtime partner and first gentleman Marlon Reis, a writer and animal welfare advocate. Polis and Reis were married in a traditional Jewish ceremony attended by family and friends in Boulder on Wednesday. They have been together for 18 years and have two children, a 7-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter. The family lives in Boulder. Polis, a Democrat, and Reis got engaged in December as Reis was preparing to be hospitalized after contracting COVID-19. Reis was released from the hospital after two days. Polis also caught the coronavirus but had only mild symptoms.
