Heat advisory, low severe storm risk Friday; Less hot this weekend

Friday looks like another very hot day across central and south Alabama. A heat advisory includes most of our area Friday, meaning heat indices likely peak near or above 105° yet again with high temperatures in the mid 90s. If you are outside for a long time Friday afternoon, take more frequent breaks in air-conditioned or at least shaded areas and stay hydrated to avoid heat-related illness. Fortunately, it looks like the heat finally backs down a bit this weekend.

Otherwise, Friday looks partly cloudy with widely scattered showers and storms. A few storms may become strong to severe again, capable of damaging wind gusts. Friday’s storms form in advance of a “cold” front, which pushes through and south of most of our area this weekend. High temperatures remain in the mid 90s Saturday and Sunday, but heat indices remain much lower, peaking between the mid 90s and 100°.

With drier air in place, only stray showers or storms appear possible Saturday and Sunday. The best chance for a shower or storm stays near the northwest Florida state line. Most of our area remains dry this weekend with a partly to mostly sunny sky. The front remains stalled near the gulf coast early next week, so our rain chance remains very low Monday. However, rain chances rise due to higher humidity as the front fizzles out by the middle of next week.
