It’s a service many people count on when there’s an emergency, but Bullock County could lose its only ambulance service.
The hospital board which maintains the ambulances says it’s running out of money to pay for the service. According to hospital board member Thomas May, the ambulance service needs about $100 thousand this year to fund the costs of running ambulances.
“Most of the people who are transported on ambulance service are either on medicaid or medicare. Even though you might bill $500, you don’t get $500, and there’s so many of the patients don’t have anything, so you don’t get anything. You make a lot of runs, but no pay,” said May.
The hospital board is set to take up the issue in its meeting at the end of the month.
