Check In Starts For First Montgomery Marathon

It takes a lot of work stuffing bags with shirts and setting out all the running gear anyone could need.
The day before a race is all about making those last minute preps to get a new personal record.
And that’s for all the races, from 5k to the full marathon.
Â
“I run 5k’s as much as I can. Last weekend I did the seaside 5k and this will be my 6th 5k for the year so far,” said Jim Bent.
Â
The race is getting even more attention than year’s past with the addition of the full marathon, which is also a Boston qualifier.
Â
“I think that just builds on the reputation. I think it’s a great thing to have the full marathon, the half, the 5k, lots of other runs. I think it just keeps building and people are enjoying them all so I think it’s a great thing to do,” said Bent.
Â
It’s not all about selling running gear and the latest tech.
Â
The day is also about promoting charities the race benefits.Â
Â
“This is a charity event, raising money for various charities, Child Protect is here, we’ve got the Red Cross, Eat South is here,” said Greg Miles with Montgomery Multisport.
Â
That includes Hyundai’s non profit to help children diagnosed with cancer.
Â
“Hyundai Hope On Wheels has actually been one of the largest donators to pediatric cancer research. They donate to up to 600 institutions and has funded 200 research projects,” said Ronin Su.
Â
“Over $100 million to date. So we’re hoping to raise a lot of funds, a lot of awareness today,” said Ada Chan with the non-profit.Â
