Riots in the streets of Baltimore sent the city into chaos over the past few weeks over an arrest that was thought to be unjust by some.
Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley says the way local and state agencies came together to handle the situation was admirable.

“A day or two after the initial incident they did an outstanding job in that coordinating effort. But as far as any criticism on what took place there, I can’t comment on that,” said Finley.

But he says he does discuss these situations with his department.

“It’s all about respect, all about the training, all about the constitutional issues and do you have a reason to do what we do. We have to talk to these officers. We also ensure that the supervisors supervise to make sure that these officers do the right thing each and every day. And also the supervisor monitors the officers in those critical situations where they need that support,” said Finley.

We also talked to Chief Finley about a recent picture we posted on our facebook page that has gone viral. A Columbus, GA mother requested the police to mock arrest her 10 year old son because of his disrespectful behavior. Thousands of people weighed in on whether the mom did the right thing.
Chief Finely say he wouldn’t have done it.

“I believe in we have to approach it in a different light. That was her child. She made that decision. I think I would do a different decision to try to ensure they can come to us in those times of need instead of being fearful about law enforcement,” said Finley.
