The Montgomery city council race is heating up as a new candidate throws her hat into the District 5 race.

Phyllis Harvey-Hall is a former Montgomery Public Schools teacher for 25 years.

Wednesday she kicked off her campaign.

Harvey-Hall says, if elected, she wants to work with police and educators to help better the community.

She says she also wants to see revitalization in her district. And “Keeping District 5 Alive” is the motto of her campaign.
Harvey-Hall says she has been out meeting neighbors and listening to their concerns.

“People are feeling as though there is too much crime, seeing burglaries, they are afraid sometimes to go out of their homes. The elderly are really terrified. And we’re looking at youth that are not engaged in worthwhile activities. As I’ve looked at what’s going on in my neighborhood and other neighborhoods, I think we need someone who’s going to get into office and really work,” said Harvey-Hall.

Right now, C.C. Calhoun represents District 5 on the city council.
