Two of the suspects in the Riverfront Brawl sentenced
Two of the suspects in this summer’s brawl at the Montgomery Riverfront have been sentenced.
Zachery Shipman and Allen Todd appeared in the Montgomery Municipal Court Friday morning. Both men pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of harassment. They were originally charged with third-degree assault for their role in the fight.
As part of the guilty plea, both Shipman and Todd will have a 60-day suspended sentence with 12 months of court supervised probation, pay court costs, 100 hours of community service and an anger management program. Todd will complete his community service in Baldwin County, while Todd will complete his in Dallas County.
In October, the other two defendants, Mary Todd and Richard Roberts, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of harassment.
Additionally, Co-Captain Dameion Pickett also appeared in court this morning. Pickett’s charge of third degree assault was dismissed. Pickett was charged in November after Shipman chose to press charges against him.
Both Mayor Steven Reed and Police Chief Darryl Albert said they considered Pickett a victim.
One of the other suspects in the case, Reggie Ray, is scheduled to appear in municipal court on December 11 for this charge of disorderly conduct.
The fight broke out August 5 on the dock that the city’s Harriott II riverboat uses. According to eyewitnesses, Pickett told people using a pontoon boat that they needed to move their boat from where it was at the dock so that the riverboat could return to shore.
The boaters were accused of refusing to move, which led Pickett to get himself to shore. When investigators say he started trying to move the boat himself, the brawl broke out.
