CAMPAIGN 2026: Voters head to polls for Alabama runoffs
MONGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Voters throughout Alabama are heading to the polls to decide runoffs for federal, state and local races.
Polls are open until 7PM. Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers expects turnout to be light, especially with rain in many areas. Flowers believes turnout will be around 11-12%, which would be around half of what it was in the May 19 primaries.
COMPLETE LIST OF RUNOFF RACES IN OUR AREA
The biggest races are the Democratic and Republican runoffs for U.S. Senate. On the Republican side, Barry Moore and Jared Hudson are facing off, while on the Democratic side, it’s Everett Wess vs. Dakarai Larriett. The winners will move on to the November 3 general election. Whomever ultimately wins will replace U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) who chose not to seek a second term in order to run for governor.
The major state races are Republican runoffs for Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner and the Place 2 seat on the Alabama Public Service Commission.
Other than the runoff for U.S. Senate, there are no other statewide Democratic runoffs.
At the local level, there are many runoffs in both parties for county commission and school board seats in various counties. Autauga County has a Republican runoff for sheriff.
