As more and more groups of Alabamians are calling for the Governor’s resignation, the state auditor is asking the ethics commission to look into whether any ethics laws were violated.

State Auditor Jim Zeigler says it may be spring break for state lawmakers, but questions and concerns about Bentley’s alleged affair are not being kept quiet. He’s filed a complaint with the ethics commission. He says this all stems because of Mason’s unclear job description and whether or not she’s being paid by state funds. He said, “If she’s acting as if she were a state employee, she cannot accept money from outside sources, which she definitely is. On the other hand, if she is not acting as a state employee then she has to register as a lobbyist and comply with all the laws of a lobbyist. She’s not done that either.”

Zeigler says ethics investigators will look into the complaint, and if there’s probable cause, it’ll be turned over the attorney general.
