Troy Community Participates in Forum to Promote Unity
Leaders of Troy’s community along with residents are bridging the gap of violence and race in light of recent events in the nation.
People attending say the forum is about unity and learning how everyone can take a positive approach after last week’s police-involved shootings.
“Troy Police Department, Pike County Sheriff’s Department, they are here to protect and serve us. City council members facilitate that protection and the rights we have as citizens,” says Dana Wilson.Â
They say an open discussion is vital after recent violence and issues of race that cause division.
“Sometimes we don’t even want to say the word because it’s a explosive word, a touchy word. When you start talking about racism and a sudden barriers come up,” says Anthony Askew.
Tuesday, July 19th  the Troy community will gather to pray for the nation together with pastors from Pike and Barbour counties. The vigil will be held at the Troy Recreation Center, starting a 6 p-m.
