Alabama’s unemployment rate is up slightly despite what officials are calling record employment in the state. The preliminary, seasonally adjusted jobless rate for April is 3.8%. Maryland’s comptroller says he’s urging the state’s pension system to divest itself from Alabama-based companies due to the state’s strictest-in-the-nation abortion ban. Alabama has executed a man for a quadruple killing in 1997 that followed a dispute over the use of a pickup truck.
